Using Claude
Learn about the features and advanced ways to use Claude to get better results and improve productivity.
Refining Prompts
Just like a person, Claude can help you better if you give it more information. For example, include background about why you want this information and any specific details or format that you want it in. You can upload files for it to reference and even “dialogue” with it using follow-up requests to continually improve what it gives you.
Creating Projects
Projects help save, organize, share, and manage chat threads on a particular project or topic, such as a product launch campaign, course development, assignment, or research project.
With Claude Projects you can:
- Organize related topics in one workspace
- Track progress on long-term tasks
- Upload and reference multiple documents within a project
- Maintain context across multiple chats
- Keep projects private, or share with colleagues to collaborate
Referencing Documents
Claude can analyze, summarize, and reference documents for you, including visual elements, such as images, charts, and graphics. Upload one or more files directly in a chat and tell Claude what you’d like it to do with it! For example, upload a CSV with lots of quantitative data and ask Claude to help you understand it and to create interactive data visualizations with it.

Iterating and Sharing Artifacts
Draft content with Claude—say a formatted report, interactive chart, or code file—and continue refining it in a separate panel alongside the chat. These are called artifacts and are most often used for content that you’ll iterate or reference frequently. Artifacts are also easy to share.
Claude can produce many kinds of artifacts:
- Documents: Well-formatted text documents, reports, or creative writing
- Code: Complete code solutions that you can download or modify
- Visualizations: Charts, graphs, or diagrams that represent data
- Web Pages: Interactive web elements and simple applications
Searching the Web
Claude can now search the web! Available in feature preview to Northeastern accounts in the U.S., this feature must be turned on under your account settings. Once turned on, pose questions to Claude that require knowledge from the web to answer, bringing up-to-date information into your tasks for Claude.

Enabling Extended Thinking

One of Claude’s latest feature, extended thinking, is available for your most complex problems, plans, and tasks. Switch to extended thinking mode when you need to:
- Solve for mathematical calculations and proofs
- Conduct in-depth analysis of a complex research topic
- Create comprehensive plans
- Analyze multi-step problems
